I’m a little over halfway through my self-isolation period (thankfully no symptoms so far.) I’m fortunate to be surrounded by people and a community to help out while in enforced isolation.
Friday I had groceries delivered from our local store. It’s a service they started offering to make it easier for people in self-isolation. It’s a great service and so appreciated by those of us who can’t go out. I put my order in Thursday and it arrived the next day in my yard. 🙂
The brown cardboard box reminded my of my grandfather’s grocery store when I was a kid. I used to help get orders ready on Saturday for delivery. I thought I was very grown up getting milk or bread or cans organized for the orders. Things were always delivered in cardboard boxes.
So much has changed since those days and yet suddenly in the midst of chaos it all is so similar. People are posting pictures of family game night and looking for puzzles and activities to do. There’s something a little reassuring in seeing the similarities to my childhood days in these very uncertain times. I hope when this is over and we return to whatever that normal is we are able to look back at some of this enforced quiet with the same nostalgia. And maybe we’ll have learned something from it we didn’t expect.
One can only hope we have learned something>

I hope so. Maybe to move a little slower, talk a little more.

I loved your grandfather’s store, Bonnie. He was so good to our family in a very difficult time. Each of the local stores had a delightful and unique smell. For some reason, I associate the smell of rubber boots with his. I AC so glad that I grew to in that era.

LOL – I was fascinated with the shoes upstairs in the store. One of my favourite places to play when we were there.
